AGM and Special Presentation to Merv
This year's annual general meeting took place on Saturday, September 21, and in addition to club business and electing the 2009 executive committee, a special presentation was made by Linda Nye honouring Merv Mason. In appreciation of Merv's more than 50 years as a member and 20 years as court steward (a role he began in 1985), he was presented with a lifetime membership at TCTC, represented by a certificate and a gold shoe tag with the number #1 on it (we'll have to retire that number!). Linda spoke of Merv's long tenure at the club (when he joined, membership cost $13), the fact that his name is on every tournament trophy (except for ladies doubles and singles!) 13 times, and that when asked to describe Merv using one word in celebration of his 70th birthday a few years ago, the following were some of members' thoughts: wise, gentleman, and champion -- sentiments we all share. On behalf of past and current members, we extend a warm thank you to our stalwart court steward, fellow member, and friend. Thank you, Merv!
2008 Reg Cowan Tournament Survived.
This year's Reg Cowan Mixed Doubles Tournament was won by Lan Luan and Steven Rumazza, who defeated Ellen McLean and Parvez Tehrani by the score of 6-1, 6-1 in this weekend's final. Due to some rain on Saturday, Lan and Steven played three matches on Sunday to win the championship - not an easy feat! Click here for the final results.
Big thanks to Linda, Niladri, Sherry, and Oz who helped dry the courts early on Sunday morning. Also, big thanks to Zaria and gang for feeding the spectators and participants during the final. Finally, a big thanks to all participants for accommodating the change in match times due to the rainy weather. Although the weather forecast was gloomy, this year's Reg Cowan tournament survived.

2008 Doubles Winners
Despite a little rain on Day Two of the tournament (thanks to Parvez, Mark, and Kyoshi for their early-morning sequeegeeing efforts), we held the finals on Sunday, July 13th. Kevin Bolger and Mike Goldstein beat Harris Rosen and Dan DeAngelis (6-1, 6-4). Play was delayed by Harris's wife's efforts to throw extra clothing over the fence to her husband, which snagged on the barbed wire and flew flag-like in the breeze until Harris managed to retrieve them using his sheer height and a yardstick. In the women's doubles, Nicola Woods and Jennifer Cotterchio successfully defended their title, beating Danijela Konforte and Nicole Hong (6-2, 6-1). Congratulations to all - it was great tennis to watch!

Men's A2 Team Final Playoff Match - Thursday 5pm
This Thursday at 5 pm, our very own Harris Rosen and Dan De Angelis will be playing a team from Kew Gardens for the league championship. The match was called due to darkness last week. Rescheduled Matches - Courts Unavailable Monday night
The Men's A2 team will be using all three courts this Monday (June 23) from 6pm on to play a rainout match from last week. The team apologizes for this inconvenience but encourages everyone to come out to support them.
Please wear appropriate footwear on our new courts!
It's been brought to our attention that someone wore black-soled sneakers on court three, which left black skid marks all over the new surface. Please do your part to keep our courts in great shape by wearing non-marking soled shoes (and please remove any items you bring on court, like sharp can lids, empty water bottles, etc.).
Court Resurfacing Update: May 30th
The court resurfacing is complete, and the courts
are now playable (right on schedule)! Please do your part to keep them clean by taking away your garbage (especially tennis ball can lids), and keep them secure by locking up (or arranging for the last person playing to do so).

We have also reserved the week of June 2nd, in case of weather delays. Thanks for your patience during this project. It will be worth the wait when we play on our new (US Open Blue) courts this summer!
Women Players Needed for Community B Team
If you're interested in playing some matches and representing Trinity College Tennis Club, we are looking for women players for the Community B Team. TCTC Club Security Update - New Shoe Tag and Combination
Our shed and courts were left unlocked all night recently, and some of our shoe tags are missing. This is a serious breach
of security, and we are issuing new shoe tags with a new combination, effective Monday, May 12th. Please pick up your new shoe tag from Merv, who is at the courts on weekdays from 4pm until sundown (weather
permitting). It is the responsibility of all TCTC members to lock
up if they are the last ones leaving the court,
whether in the daytime or evening.
How to Close the Club
---------------------------------
1) Put chairs away.
2) Put garbage/recycling bins in shed.
3) Lock shed.
4) Lock courts.
5) If you are amongst the last to leave, please ensure
whoever is left knows EXACTLY WHAT TO DO.
6) Daytime or night-time, if you're the last to leave
you MUST lock up. We do not keep the shed or courts
open during the day if no-one is there.
